POSITION OVERVIEW We are seeking a highly skilled Backend Engineer – AI Systems to design, develop, and scale the backend infrastructure powering our AI\-driven education platform. The successful candidate will work closely with software engineers, AI researchers, and product teams to build secure, scalable, and production\-ready backend services. This role focuses on developing APIs, integrating AI and Large Language Model (LLM) capabilities, managing data infrastructure, and ensuring the reliability and performance of AI\-powered applications throughout their lifecycle. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Backend Development * Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain scalable backend services and production\-grade APIs. * Develop clean, maintainable, and well\-documented backend code following engineering best practices. * Build reusable backend components that support multiple AI\-powered applications. * Optimize backend performance, scalability, and reliability. AI Systems Integration * Integrate AI/ML models, Large Language Models (LLMs), retrieval pipelines, and third\-party AI services into production applications. * Build and maintain model inference endpoints and service interfaces supporting AI\-powered features. * Implement Retrieval\-Augmented Generation (RAG), semantic search, and vector search capabilities where appropriate. * Collaborate with AI engineers to operationalize machine learning models within production environments. Database \& Infrastructure * Design and maintain efficient database schemas across relational, NoSQL, and vector databases. * Optimize database performance, indexing, and query execution. * Ensure data integrity, consistency, and security across backend systems. * Support backend deployment, monitoring, logging, and production stability. Software Engineering * Own assigned features from technical planning through implementation, deployment, monitoring, and post\-release support. * Evaluate technical trade\-offs involving scalability, performance, maintainability, reliability, and security. * Conduct code reviews and contribute to engineering standards and best practices. * Write and maintain comprehensive technical documentation and API documentation. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS \& EXPERIENCE * Bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field. * At least 5 years of professional experience in backend software development, including practical experience with AI/ML\-powered systems. * Strong Python software development skills and experience with backend frameworks such as FastAPI, Django, or Flask. * Experience designing and building RESTful APIs, integrating third\-party services, and developing scalable backend applications. * Experience with relational and NoSQL databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, or MongoDB, including schema design, query optimization, and data integrity. * Practical experience with vector databases and AI application patterns such as retrieval\-augmented generation or semantic search. * Experience integrating large language models and orchestration frameworks such as LangChain or LlamaIndex. * Experience deploying or serving AI models and LLM\-based services in production. * Experience writing automated unit and integration tests and using Git\-based development workflows. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS * Experience training, fine\-tuning, and evaluating machine learning or large language models using tools such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, scikit\-learn, or Hugging Face. * Experience with AWS or another major cloud platform. * Experience with computer vision applications. * Experience with speech\-to\-text and text\-to\-speech, including the entire pipeline. * Experience working in Linux server environments. * Experience with Docker, CI/CD pipelines, and production observability; Kubernetes experience is an advantage. * Knowledge of MLOps practices, including model versioning, deployment, monitoring, and lifecycle management. * Experience with microservices\-based architectures and Agile methodologies such as Scrum or Kanban. * Experience with Node.js is an advantage.
